Seasonal Pruning

Pruning is where a garden is kept true to its design. Done at the right time, in the right way, it keeps a scheme looking intentional rather than overgrown.

Timed to the plant

Every species has its own window. Spring-flowering shrubs are cut after they bloom, not before. Summer perennials are cut back in autumn or left standing for winter structure, depending on what the design intends. Fruit trees follow their own calendar. Getting the timing wrong costs a season of flower.

Restraint over reflex

Not everything needs cutting every year. We prune with a reason, and often the right decision is to leave a plant alone. Over-pruning is as damaging as neglect — it just looks tidier while it's happening.
